Fall 2003 Band formed in 2003 when Dan invited other musicians to join him in forming an Irish band. Original members Andy Rosenfeld , Beth Folkemer , Stephen Folkemer , Joel Folkemer , Margaret Folkemer, & Curtis Rockwell joined with Dan Diviney to form Cormorant's Fancy. Cormorant is most likely the 'black bird' which is translated from O'Dubheannaig, the Irish ancestors of Diviney, and a fancy is a fiddle tune. The band added song Scottish songs and tunes, as well as a few from other Celtic nations. You'll find an occasional English and American song as well.
March 28, 2005 - During the last 12 months, we filmed a short segment for a cable TV commercial to be aired spring/summer of 2005 in the Mid-Atlantic states for Gettysburg Tourism; we laid soundtrack for The History of New Oxford to be aired on local cable TV and available later this spring on DVD and VHS; we began recording in the studio for a CD for a Songs & Stories of a Civil War Hospital series; and recorded a live CD at the Fairfield Inn later February and early March, with studio mixing to be completed in another month or so. Oh, almost forgot, we played 42 gigs, including, 5 festivals, 6 pub gigs, 7 concerts, 22 shows at Fairfield Inn, a coffee shop gig, 2 college concerts, a wedding, and a private party. We met allot of great people and had one heck of a great time playing for you.
2005 Fiddler Norman Nunamaker joined the group and we also had Katie Rosenfeld sang and played fiddle for a period during 2004/2005.
March 17, 2006 Released first CD "An Evening at The Fairfield Inn". Four months later supplies were depleted and a second batch was burned and is still available. We are currently on our fourth run.
July 15, 2006 We closed the Adams County Irish Festival (10:30am - 8pm), following a great performance by headliner and Irish music legend Tommy Makem, "The Godfather of Irish Music"; Cathie Ryan (past lead vocalist for 7 year with Cherish the Ladies; Irish music legend Derek Warfield (Wolf Tones); Irishtown Road, local/regional class act; and The Spalpeens from Baltimore, MD. Could we say Tommy Makem opened for us...nah - he was simply brilliant! We rolled out our first Cormorant's Fancy shirts and sold a bunch. Get yourself one before there are none left. "There is no other".
Late 2007 Began our 2nd CD which may be finished late 2008 if the stars all line up properly.
July 11, 2008 Cormorant's Fancy opens for Malinky at the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts.
Cormorant's Fancy members may be available for workshops and instruction. Andy & Stephen are music faculty members at Mount Saint Marys College and the Lutheran Seminary respectively. Curtis Rockwell builds guitars and both he and Beth have provided instruction at folk music events.
