Stephen's all-time favorite birthday present is his Hayden Duet Concertina. Occasionally the group persuades him to put it down and take his turn at the keyboard, where he is quite accomplished. His back-up vocals and occasional lead add to CF's songs, chanties, and ballads.

Since 1979, Stephen has served as the music director at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg, where he is Associate Professor of Church Music. He directs several choirs, and founded the Schola Cantorum of Gettysburg, an Affiliate of "Music, Gettysburg", in 1986.   Schola Cantorum's new CD, available soon (see below), includes the voices of Beth, Meg, Joel, and Andy. He sits on the "Music, Gettysburg!" executive committee and belongs to SFMS. In addition, he belongs to Folk and Friends, and serves as organist at St. Mark Lutheran Church.

Stephen has studied at the the Berlin Church Music School (Germany), and the Catholic University of America, and with J. Reilly Lewis. He holds degrees from Wittenberg University and LTSG. He wrote the folk liturgy, Of the Land and Seasons, has composed published choral and organ works, and helps to arrange material for CF.
